(Dec. 5, 2007)- The first significant snowfall to hit the Northern Sierra has bestowed 6 inches of new snowfall on Donner Summit as of 3 p.m. today, with a storm total expected to reach 24 inches by late Friday, allowing Boreal to expand operations and offer visitors even more terrain. In addition to top to bottom day and night skiing and snowboarding, and full base facilities, Boreal will be spinning 3 chair lifts, 2 moving carpets and a tube carousel, offering guests 2 terrain parks, great learn to ski/ride packages and lots of powder for all to enjoy. “It’s exciting to see the snow falling up here and we’re excited to get everyone on the mountain to ride this weekend,” said Jon Slaughter, marketing manager. “We’ve patiently waited and cannot wait to see everyone slashing and sliding through some powder snow this weekend.” The snow is just in time for “Learn More on the North Shore,” a learn to ski/ride promotion available this Saturday and Sunday, available to first timers wanting to get a real taste of what snowsports are all about. The package is only $25 and includes lift ticket, full equipment rental and an hour and forty-five minute lesson with Boreal’s skilled and friendly instructors. Lesson’s begin at 10:15 a.m. and continue every hour throughout the day. Finally, mark your calendars as Boreal continues its event series with a Snowbomb.com Sick and Twisted Rail Jam December 15. Competitors in three classes; skiing, snowboarding and ladies, will have the chance to compete for cash and prizes at this best of two run event. Registration will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with practice from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and competition from 12:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Boreal offers the closest, most convenient access off Interstate 80 atop Donner Summit, just 90 minutes from Sacramento, 35 minutes from Reno and only six minutes from Truckee. Boreal Mountain Resort offsets 100 percent of its electricity by purchasing green power.
