Press Release

First Snowfall for Boreal Mountain Resort

October 22, 2010

Media Contact: Jon Slaughter Boreal Mountain Resort 530.386.3388 jons@rideboreal.com Press Release October 23, 2010 First Snowfall for Boreal Mountain Resort Donner Summit, CA, (October 23, 2010) The first measurable snowfall for the 2010/2011 season has arrived at Boreal Mountain Resort. A cold front now pushing over Donner Summit has dropped 2-3 inches of new snow. The cold temperatures are expected to remain in the region through this week, allowing snowmaking operations to begin and run at every opportunity. Pending storm totals and snowmaking conditions, Boreal will open for skiing and snowboarding on Friday, October 29, 2010. (conditions permitting) New snowfall along with production of man-made snow opens the door for another early ski/snowboard season at Boreal Mountain Resort. Following the snow storm, temperatures are forecasted to remain below freezing for several days allowing Boreal’s snowmaking crew the first opportunity to switch-on the enhanced snowmaking system. This summer Boreal Mountain Operations crew completed a 3-year, $1.6 million upgrade to the snowmaking system. Fifteen new snow guns were added to the mountain this summer, providing more snowmaking fire-power on a top-to-bottom run, and expansions on two lower mountain trails. “This storm could not come at a better time,” said Jon Slaughter, Marketing Director at Boreal. “Our goal for opening day has traditionally been Halloween, and thanks to this storm we are positioned to reach our target.” Last season Boreal was able to open for three days early in October and then open for the season on October 31, 2009. Known for being the first resort to open in Northern California, Boreal will take advantage of the current weather to get guests on snow weeks before other resorts. “Early snowfall is always exciting for skiers and snowboarders, providing momentum for the great season to come, plus it will deliver a boost for our Last Chance Season Pass Sale,” Slaughter continued. Snowmaking operations will continue day and night as weather permits. Please call Jon Slaughter at (530)386-3388 for updates on snowmaking operations, or to coordinate onsite coverage.
