Castle Peak Quad Nearing Completion

September 23, 2008

Castle Peak Quad Nearing Completion Donner Summit, CA, (September 24, 2008)- The team at Boreal Mountain Resort has been working hard this summer to bring customers the only new chairlift in California. The new Castle Peak Quad will replace the existing Gunnar’s double chair, increasing base area capacity on beginner/novice runs and evolution terrain parks. The new lift will take skiers and riders to a slightly higher end point than the Gunnar’s chair, offering skiers and riders terrain to the resorts mid-mountain. Lift towers and assemblies are installed for the new Doppelmayr Quad Chair and the terminals are under construction. “Our Mountain Operations crew has been working extremely hard to ensure the lift is ready for this winter,” said Shaydar Edelman, Boreal Mountain Manager. “We are ahead of schedule on all projects and should be ready for testing at the end of the month.” Another major improvement is the snowmaking upgrade to a fully automated SMI Fan snowmaking system that will double its current output capacity and dramatically improve efficiency. Driving by on I-80, twenty-five new fan guns can be seen scattered along the mountainside, including two fan guns dedicated to the Superpipe. The capabilities of the new snowmaking system will enhance Boreal’s reputation for a superior early season product. The expanded snowmaking system will not only increase capacity, it will reduce the resort’s carbon emissions by over 300 tons by eliminating compressed air. Be sure to take a look at the improvement as you drive by on I-80 or plan to check it out in person at the 4th Annual Jibassic Pro Invitational on October 25, 2008. You can see all the improvements during the day, and then watch the pros compete for cash at night. Escape the couch. Escape to Boreal, located off Interstate 80 atop Donner Summit, just 90 minutes from Sacramento, 35 minutes from Reno and only six minutes from Truckee, escaping has never been easier. Plus, with Boreal’s new quad chair and enhanced snowmaking capabilities, the mountain is better than ever. Boreal Mountain Resort offsets 100 percent of its electricity by purchasing green power.
